Senior Kyleigh Flores prepares to serve against the Arp Lady Tigers
The Ladynecks swept the Arp Lady Tigers last Friday in a three set match. The final scores were 25-13, 25-20, and 25-15. This was the Ladynecks first win after a three game losing streak. They used the momentum they had from each set to win the next. Senior Taylor Morgan did her job at the service line, finishing the game with four aces.
The Ladynecks came out strong, starting the first set off with a lead. They knew exactly where to put the ball on the Lady Tigers side of the net to score points. Going into the second and third set, the Lady Tigers came out stronger, wanting to take a set from the Ladynecks, but weren’t able to.
Senior Andee Bridges put the ball down, finishing the game with 12 kills, while sophomore Carrington Watson finished with 10 kills. Junior Addy Young helped them out, having 34 assists throughout the match. Junior Londyn Baker was very scrappy on defensive with 20 digs, while sophomore Peyton Thompson had 12.
“The biggest challenge that we faced were the errors we were making. The other team wasn’t super skilled so they mainly got points because of our errors,” said Watson. “I personally try to brush mistakes off as quickly as possible. Something that works for me is saying things like, “that’s my bad, let’s get the next point” because it gets me ready and determined to work for the next point. All types of communication helped. It brought energy and determination to win on the court. It also shows that we trust each other, so less errors were made.”
This win brought the Ladynecks overall record up to 15-15 and their district record to 2-3.
“The opponent challenged us by having to be ready for any ball coming across the net, whether it was the first, second or third contact. They were unorthodox and tipped a lot, “ Coach Morgan High said, reflecting on the win. “Our team did what we were supposed to and swept them. We played well as a team and found their weaknesses.”
The Ladynecks will play the Gladewater Lady Bears at 6:30 p.m on Tuesday.
